It would be an honor and a privilege to represent District 4 in the Maine Legislature. I have lived in this district for nearly 30 years and raised 3 children here with my husband. As a neurologist, I have owned a private practice here for 26 years, employing staff and fulfilling all the obligations of a small business owner. Diagnosing and treating patients in this area, through York Hospital, other area hospitals and my office in Portsmouth, NH, has been a joy and a wonderful challenge. I have closed my practice in order to transition my focus to the wider community.

Elected to the York School Committee for 2 terms, several years as Chairperson, I learned much about public education, civic engagement and stewardship. I was chief negotiator for the Town of York teachers’ contract.

Several years ago I wrote and introduced a bill, through Senator Bowman, to the Maine Legislature when some of my patients reacted to a change in their medications used to treat epilepsy.  Shepherding the bill through committee and discussions in Augusta taught me about the legislative process. This made me think that one day I would become more involved.

Serving as Chairperson of the Board of Families First Health and Support Center, the community health center safety net that serves the Seacoast area including York, has allowed me to hone my leadership and strategic planning skills.   The York Diversity Forum and healthcareGIVES are two local non-profit organizations I have helped establish and lead.

As Maine Delegate to the American Academy of Neurology advocacy effort, I have met with our Senators and Representatives in Washington, DC, including Senators Snowe, Collins and King and Representatives Pingree and Michaud.  This enlarged my view of the representative and lobbying process.

In this district, I have been a mother, wife, doctor, community leader and citizen. I will work with fervor and high energy, good sense and deep commitment for you, my neighbors.
